Overview

There are no clear causes of NAFLD, although various disorders are strongly associated with it including obesity, diabetes mellitus type 2, and dyslipidemia, all of which are components of the metabolic syndrome. Other less common causes of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease include oxidative stress, hormonal imbalances, endotoxemia and mitochondrial abnormalities.

Causes

Secondary NAFLD

Secondary non-alcoholic fatty liver disease can also be defined as injury to liver caused by either medications, surgery and other diseases.
