Overview
Mitral regurgitation (MR) can be classified into either acute or chronic according to the acuity of the events leading to the valvular abnormality. Chronic MR is further classified into primary or secondary based on the presence or absence of one or more abnormalities in the structures of the valves, respectively.[1] Secondary MR can be either ischemic or functional.[2]
