Overview

p27 is a human gene on chromosome 6 and belongs to the cip/kip family. It encodes a cell cycle inhibitor protein that binds to cyclin D and CDK4 and causes arrest in G1 phase. p27 is activated by Transforming Growth Factor β (TGF β). [1] A mutation of this gene may lead to loss of control over the cell cycle leading to uncontrolled cellular proliferation. [2]
