Overview

Effective measures for the secondary prevention of delayed puberty are prompt diagnosis and hormone replacement therapy to prevent osteoporosis, short adult height along with salpingo-oophorectomy in Turner syndrome, to prevent malignancy.

Effective measures for the secondary prevention of delayed puberty include:
- Prompt diagnosis, and hormone replacement therapy in order to prevent osteoporosis and short adult height.
- Salpingo-oophorectomy in Turner syndrome to prevent malignancy.

It seems that delayed puberty can lead to lower bone mineral density (BMD) in adulthood.^[1]
Since the lower BMD is the main risk factor for fracture, therefore untreated delayed puberty leads to more fracture rate.^[2]
Hormone therapy in boys, but not girls, with short stature and delayed puberty improves the adult height, proportionally.^[3]
Timely initiation of hormonal therapy can also prevent any psychological problems in children with delayed puberty.^[4]
