Overview

On lateral neck x-ray, adenoiditis is characterized by enlargement of adenoids and narrowing of airways.

Neck X ray

  • In lateral neck X ray an enlargement of adenoids and narrowing of upper respiratory airways can be seen.
  • Lateral X-rays of the neck,is a very good noninvasive procedure for adenoiditis diagnosis.
  • Although other methods like nasopharyngoscopy have been introduced for diagnosis, it is a very reliable and valid diagnostic test in the evaluation of hypertrophied adenoids.
  • It can miss the cases of adenoiditis due to low grade hypertrophy.[1]
