Overview

The most common symptoms of the esophagitis include halitosis, epigastric chest pain, often radiating to the back, dysphagia, odynophagia, hoarseness, oral ulcers.

History and Symptoms

History

Obtaining history gives important information in making a diagnosis of esophagitis. It provides an insight into the cause, precipitating factors, and associated comorbid conditions. A complete history will help determine the correct therapy and helps in determining the prognosis. Patients presenting with eosinophilic esophagitis have a history of:

  • Elevated serum IgE levels
  • Response to interventions such as diet restriction
  • History of food hypersensitivity
  • Burning sensation in the epigastric area

Symptoms

The symptoms of esophagitis include:[1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8][9]
