Inflammation caused by COVID-19 infection affects erythropoiesis and decreases hemoglobin.[3]

Epidemiology and Demographics

Although anemia is not a common finding in patients with COVID-19 infection, decrease in hemoglobin in patients with severe COVID-19 infection has been reported.[3][5]
