Overview

Surgical treatments include cryosurgery, in which liquid nitrogen is used to freeze and destroy lesions, as well as scraping them off with a curette.

Surgery

Curettage
  • Physical removal of the molluscum contagiosum lesion with a curette 17156002
  • Immediate effect of treatment
  • High number of lesions and concomitant atopic dermatitis are considered as risk factor associated with lower chance of effective therapy
  • Can lead to small, depressed scars as a side effect

Laser

Pulsed dye laser therapy for molluscum contagiosum may be effective as the treatment for multiple lesions in patient [1][2]
