Dosage and Administration

Dosage and mode of administration depend on the severity of the infection, sensitivity of the pathogens, and condition of the patients.

Dosage in Adult Patients With Normal Renal Function

Dosage in Patients With Impaired Renal Function

Cefpirome is excreted predominantly via the renal route. In cases of impaired renal funclion, dose reduction is necessary lo compensate for the slower excretion.

No dose reduction is necessary in patients wilh a creatinine clearance below 50 ml/min. In patients with creatinine clearance below 50/ml/min, the dosage must be adjusted according to the following scheme:

When creatinine clearance can not be measured, it can be calculated based on the serum creatinine level using the following formula (Cockcroft's equation):

Dosage in Elderly Patients

No adjustment necessary except in cases of impaired renal function (see above).

Duration of Treatment

The duration of treatment depends on patient's clinical and bacteriological response.[1]
