Overview
Though long-term prophylaxis has been shown to be beneficial in decreasing incidence of bleeding events in patients with Hemophilia A, the major barrier to its implementation is high cost.

Long-term prophylaxis, particularly for patients with severe hemophilia, has been shown to be cost-effective as it decreases the otherwise high cost of managing recurrent joint bleeds and improves quality of life overall.[1] Further research is required to address the issue of cost-effectiveness for therapy in hemophilia A. In particular, further research would be helpful to determine the optimal dosing schedule for prophylaxis, and the optimal target ranges of clotting factor levels.
