UCLA Neuroscience B.S., Current St. George's University SOM 2nd year student studying for step 1. Initially I wanted to get a PhD, but after being involved in a hit-and-run, I got introduced to the medical field. Shortly after my whole ordeal, I got a job as an EMT; I wanted to learn about the hospital/prehospital environment as quick as possible -- and become an EMT seemed most efficient. Did this for a year while studying for the MCAT. "Took" the MCAT in early April -- as scheduled. However, I blundered when it came down to game time; I had mistakened the 10 minute countdown timer to the tutorial portion for the count down timer to accept to take the test (the practice exams did not have a 10 minute count down timer to accept to take the MCAT). In an effort to put into writing the sheer idiocy I had perform that day -- I basically clicked "next" a few times, and through my peripheral vision saw a 10 minute countdown timer and figured "oh, I must be in the tutorial portion, time to write down my formulas.." After realizing I had made the most embarrassing and subsequently very time consuming -- almost life altering mistake, I got over it -- probably. Earliest reschedule was August; scheduled it and took it. Got a 33, and sent my sent off my applications. However by that time, it was September, and all the seats were filled. I got accepted into a few DO schools, but I couldn't bring myself to attend -- nothing against DO schools, it is more of a personal belief. Long story short, I ultimately decided I can't sit around for a year to re-apply. I hate stagnation. I opted to go to a Caribbean medical school. I can't say how this race will end because I am still running it. Going into it I had prepared myself for an uphill battle, being an IMG and all. Now in it, reality hits hard, and this is a very steep hill; not to mention realizing there are multiple other hills after it, in the form of step 2 ck, cs and step 3. In my search to improve my chances of crossing the finish line -- getting a residency, preferably in pathology, I came across a blog by the name of "benwhite.com". Now I am here, writing into a white box about the blunders of my life -- with the end-goal of getting an account to access some 600 board style questions; all of this done on a spark of spontaneity after coming back from a 5 mile run at the gym.
