Precapillary sphincter

The precapillary sphincter is a band of smooth muscle that adjusts the blood flow into each capillary. Blood flow in a capillary changes as vasomotion occurs. The entire capillary bed may be bypassed by blood flow through arteriovenous anastomoses.
