Plectasin is a new antibiotic found by Novozymes in the mushroom Pseudoplectania nigrella. Plectasin belongs to the antimicrobial peptide class called Defensins. Tests on mice have shown promising results that multiresistant bacteria have problems mutating resistance against Plectasin, however development and registration of a product are still 7 to 10 years off.
