The staging of hepatoblastoma is based on the Intergroup staging system:[1]

Stage Description
Stage I
  • Complete surgical resection
Stage II

Stage IIa

  • Complete macroscopic surgical resection
  • Intrahepatic residual microscopic disease

Stage IIb

  • Complete macroscopic surgical resection
  • Extrahepatic residual microscopic disease
Stage III

Stage IIIa

  • Incomplete surgical resection with macroscopic residual
  • Significant tumour spill
  • Positive lymph node disease

Stage IIIb

  • Tumor not resected
Stage IV

Stage IVa

  • Distant metastatic disease
  • Primary tumor completely resected

Stage IVb

  • Distant metastatic disease
  • Primary tumor incompletely resected
