Overview
History and Symptoms
The hallmark of focal segmental glomerulosclerosis is nephrotic-range proteinuria.[1]
History
Patients with focal segmental glomerulosclerosis may have a positive history of:[2][3][4]
- Positive family history of FSGN
- Heroin abuse
- Chronic viral infections such as hepatitis B
- Medications such as bisphosphonates, sunitinib, and interferon
Common Symptoms
Common symptoms of focal segmental glomerulosclerosis include:[5][6]
- Proteinuria
- Hematuria
- Anasarca
- Headache and blurry vision which is suggestive of high blood pressure
Less Common Symptoms
Less common symptoms of focal segmental glomerulosclerosis include
- Fatigue
- Malaise
- Symptoms of chronic renal failure such as anuria, edema
