Tracheal stenosis is a narrowing of the trachea. It can be idiopathic- caused for unknown reasons or because of trauma- accidents; chemical exposure; intubation, etc. Hermes Grillo (deceased 2006) pioneered the tracheal resection surgery. Sometimes tracheal stenosis is a symptom of Wegener's granulomatosis.
Symptoms can include, but are not limited to the following: shortness of breath also known as Dyspnea; wheezing also known as stridor); Several patients have reported being initially diagnosed with asthma.
There are differing opinions on treating with laser surgery.
