Classification

Signs and symptoms of thyroid disease can be related to the following:

Hyperthyroidism

Excess production of thyroid hormones. This would include symptoms of:

• Diarrhea
• Hair loss
• Hyperhidrosis
• Intolerance of the heat
• Motor agitation with small tremors
• Muscle weakness
• Ravenous hunger
• Tachycardia
• Warm sweaty skin
• Weight loss

Hypothyroidism

Insufficient production of thyroid hormones. Symptoms include:

• Apathy
• Bradycardia
• Constipation
• Deceleration of reflexes
• General weakness
• Hypotension
• Hypothermia with cool skin and cold intolerance
• Muscular spasms
• Paresthesias
• Psychic impairment
• Weight gain

Goiter:

An enlargement of the thyroid.
