This is a register macro that might alternatively be stated as {{#ifeq:{{SITENAME}}|Wikimedia Commons|{{void}}|Commons:}}

This different method of implementation has instead a hardcoded different fixed value on and off the commons when accessed by the identical template and so allows portable template coding such as that used in {{tlxc}}, uses of {{catlst}} and etc.

This tempalate is a work around for the commons not having an abbreviation that will work on it's own pages.
The presence here is as an aid to identical tagging of categories with parent category quick links using {{catlst}}. See w:category:Munich, and the same on the commons where commons parent categories and wikipedia parent categories provide beneficial links to all. And the coding is that shown below:

{{catlst|PRE='''|END='''|LABEL=Wikipedia Parent categories:
|SISTER=W:| Cities in Bavaria | German state capitals}}

{{catlst|POST='''|END='''|LABEL=Commons Parent categories:
|SISTER={{CMS}}|Municipalities in Bavaria | Upper Bavaria}}

  • Used by: Template:Catlst (edit talk links history) for compatible tagging on and between sister projects, listing quick links to applicable main categories at the head of category pages. Such are way down and off (nearly) invisible on the default skin, especially in image categories on the commons, or long pages on the wikipedia's.
