Acne fulminans, also known as Acne Maligna, is a rare and sudden onset severe form of cystic acne. It is often accompanied by fever, and inflammatory aching of the joints. The sudden flare of acne fulminans can occur after unsuccessful treatment for another form of acne, Acne Conglobata.

Acne fulminans is thought to be an immunologically induced disease. An elevated level of testosterone causes a rise in sebum and P acne bacterias. The condition is commonly treated with steroids.
