Umar Ahmad is a graduating medical student from New York. He started his medical education by doing pre-med in the Dominican Republic in Spanish. From there he went to Medical school in the Caribbean. He had the privilege of helping people who hadn’t seen a doctor on an average of more than 20 years. He devoted countless hours, while in school, to managing different free clinics set up around the island. He has rotated in Chicago with some of the best doctors in the US. He is a hardworking student who is passionate about his future and is aiming to pursue a career in Surgery. He likes to travel, meet new people, play ping pong, chess, and soccer.
Umar Ahmad is a doctor from New York. He started his medical education by doing pre-med in the Dominican Republic in Spanish. From there he went to Medical school in the Caribbean. Since the start of medical school, he has volunteered and led many programs in which students were taught and underprivileged people in the communities were given the opportunity to healthcare and advice, some of whom have never seen a doctor throughout their whole lives. He devoted countless hours, while in school, to managing different free clinics set up around the island. He has done his rotations in Chicago alongside some of the best doctors in the US.  
 
During his clinical years he has published Case Studies in the distinguished Cambridge journal CNS Spectrums and has done presentations at nationally prominent conferences such as Translational Medicine and Oncologists Meet and NEI Congress.
 
Being fortunate enough, he further went on to pursue basic science and translational research at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. While working in a lab setting he garnered tremendous experience that encompassed culturing pluripotent stem cells (PPSc), doing qPCR, blotting, immunohistochemistry, centrifugation, immunofluorescence staining, planning research, recording data, assisting in grant proposals and more. With the knowledge he absorbed, he worked on multiple projects while simultaneously learning in the process. One of these projects was the successful conversion of stem cells to beating human heart tissue and then shaping them using a scaffold-free 3D bioprinter. Afterwards, he worked on improving the technique by collecting interim data from multiple experiments that he performed on native cardiac tissue and its differentiation to attain accurate biomimicry. 
 
Umar is an ambitious person who is passionate about his future and is aiming to pursue a career in [[Surgery]] with a Cardiothoracic specialty. In his free time, he likes to learn new languages, meet new people, spend time with his family, travel, play soccer, ping pong, and chess.
