Education Volunteer and Peer Educator

International Federation of Pakistan Red Cross and Red Crescent society

  • I am an active member of Youth Clubs, which Pakistan Red Crescent Society has established in different institutions of Karachi, Pakistan where they conduct youth-related programs such as Youth as an Agent of Behavior Change (YABC) & Youth development training programs.
  • I joined this organization in 2012 and since then; I am trained all these years and have taken part in the training camps held throughout the country.
  • I have a privilege to receive the “Best Volunteer Award” from Sindh on my performance in the 4th National Youth Camp held at Islamabad in 2012. They nominated me to represent Pakistan in an International Youth Camp in Korea.
  • I joined the Red Crescent Society as an Education Volunteer for two main reasons. I believe Volunteerism provides us the opportunity to pay back to the community, people, and institutions that have invested a lot in making ourselves who we are today. The sense of achievement and the feel of joy that I get being associated with this nonprofit internationally recognized organization is unmatchable. Volunteerism keeps me motivated to go further in life and able me to take challenges and face them with positivity with all the will power and energy and this attitude has played a pivotal role in growth and expansion of my personality.
  • The main aim of the Education Volunteer is to promote a culture of healthy and safe living in communities and to bridge the gap among the diverse population in terms of ethnicity, class, and culture.
  • We have raised a good deal of public awareness campaigns and conducted workshops on Road Safety, First Aid training, Gender equality, Tolerance, and non-violence in communities.
  • I am trained on seven fundamental principles of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement like Humanity, Impartiality, Neutrality, Independence, Voluntary Services, Universality, and Unity through workshops, simulations, and activities. The first one is Humanity; this instills mindful thinking as we are here in this world for some purpose. We have to tear down that mirror that makes us look ourselves, we have to see beyond that mirror where there are millions of people who might need our help. My mission as a volunteer is to spread such ideas among Youth through my voice, act, and motivational talks.
  • I conducted a survey among the COVID-19 volunteer team to screen for anxiety and depression. I calculated anxiety and depression scores for each volunteer and emailed them their results. I also made an animation video on coping strategies to deal with mental stress during COVID-19 Pandemic and shared the YouTube video URL with my fellow volunteers.
