The essential laboratory tests for patients with rhabdomyosarcoma are evaluation of CBC, liver function tests, renal function tests, blood electrolytes, and coagulation studies.

Laboratory Findings

  • The essential laboratory tests for patients with rhabdomyosarcoma are:[1][2]
    • CBC:
      • It may result into pancytopenia and anemia due to bone involvement.
    • Liver function test ( LFT):
      • LFT should be evaluated before chemotharapy and for assessment of liver metastasis.
    • Renal function test:
      • BUN and Creatinine levels should be evaluated before chemotherapy.
    • Blood electrolytes such as sodium, potassium, chlorine, calcium, phosphorous, and magnesium:
      • Hypercalcemia may occur.
      • These tesets should be evaluated before chemotherapy.
    • Coagulation studies:
      • Disseminated intravascular coagulation may occur.
