Overview
Historical Perspective
The regulation of arterial blood pressure by renal perfusion was first recognized in the 1930s by Harry Goldblatt. He demonstrated that partial constriction of the major renal arteries of dogs led to an increase in the blood pressure, and there was a prompt drop of the pressure to normal following the release of clamps.[1] He claimed that ischemia induces renal secretion of a substance that triggers hypertension.
