Overview

Methemoglobinemia presents with very distinct physical presentation.

Physical Examination

  • Methemoglobinemia patients can present with different shades of bluish skin color, depending on the levels of MetHb in the blood. [1]
  • High methemoglobin levels in arterial blood causes the characteristic chocolate-brown color of the blood as compared to normal bright red oxygen-containing arterial blood. [2]
