Overview
There are no diagnostic laboratory findings for linitis plastica. Laboratory findings consistent with the diagnosis of linitis plastica may include abnormal complete blood picture, electrolyte abnormalities, and occult blood. Linitis plastica often metastasizes to the liver in the advanced stages, this is associated with an elevated alkaline phosphatase.
Laboratory Findings
- There are no diagnostic laboratory findings associated with linitis plastica.[1][2][3]
- Laboratory testing may be similar to that of any other type of gastric cancer and may include the following:
- Complete blood count (CBC)
- To look for anemia
- Complete metabolic panel (CMP)
- To look for any electrolyte abnormalities
- Stool testing for occult blood
- Serum chemistry tests
- Increase in alanine aminotransferase (ALT), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), alkaline phosphatase and aspartate transaminase (AST) levels may be noticed
- Tumor marker testing may be positive for CA-125, CEA, CA 19-9. CA72-4, AFP and beta hCG
- Complete blood count (CBC)
