Overview
Herniation pits are radiolucencies surrounded by a sclerotic margin that are typically located in the anterior proximal superior quadrant of the femoral neck and occur in some 33% of patients. They range in size from 3 to 15 mm (mean, 5 mm). Hips with femoroacetabular impingement have a significantly higher prevalence of herniation pits.
Diagnosis
On imaging, radiolucencies surrounded by a sclerotic margin that are typically located in the anterior proximal superior quadrant of the femoral neck are seen.
