The Cys-loop ligand-gated ion channel superfamily is comprised of nicotinic acetylcholine, GABAA, GABAC, glycine and 5-HT3 receptors that are composed of five protein subunits and possess a characteristic loop formed by a disulphide bond between two cysteine residues.
