This gene encodes a member of the calcium-dependent activator of secretion (CAPS) protein family, which are calcium-binding proteins that regulate the [[exocytosis]] of [[synaptic vesicle|synaptic]] and [[dense-core vesicle]]s in [[neuron]]s and [[neuroendocrine cell]]s.<ref name="entrez"/>
