Overview
Bartonellosis is a rare infectious disease found only in certain regions of the Andes mountains of South America. Endemic in some areas of Peru,[1] bartonellosis is caused by infection with the bacterium Bartonella bacilliformis and transmitted by sandflies of genus Lutzomyia. Bartonellosis has been recently found in the United States as well as in Canada.
