Overall, the incidence and prevalence of autoimmune hemolytic anemia is low. This condition affects a very small proportion of the population. Autoimmune hemolytic anemia affects men and women equally. There is no racial predilection for autoimmune hemolytic anemia.

Epidemiology and Demographics

  • The incidence of autoimmune hemolytic anemia overall is estimated to be between 0.8:100,000 and 3:100,000 per year.[1].[2][3]
  • The incidence of autoimmune hemolytic anemia in children is 0.2:100,000.[3] The incidence of autoimmune hemolytic anemia is higher in adults that in children.[2]
  • The incidence of warm autoimmune hemolytic anemia is estimated to be between 1.25:100,000 and 1.33:100,000.[4]
  • The incidence of drug-induced hemolytic anemia is 1:1,000,000.[4]
  • The prevalence of autoimmune hemolytic anemia is 17:100,000.[3]
