In a study, significantly lower levels of Angiopoietin-1 (Ang-1) and TNF-α were found in patients with small bowel angiodysplasia as compared to the control group. Despite similar progress in some other studies, the use of chemical markers of angiogenesis as diagnostic tool for angiodysplasia is still at an early stage and would require further research into this area.

Further insight into the pathogenesis of angiodysplasia is required for better diagnostic and therapeutic options of this condition.
