Overview

Acute kidney injury is common among hospitalized patients. It affects some 3-7% of patients admitted to the hospital and approximately 25-30% of patients in the intensive care unit [1].

Epidemiology and Demographics

Acute renal failure develops as a post-operative complication in 1% of patients within 30 days of surgery [2].

Gender

The incidence of acute renal failure is equal in both males and females.
