Afferent limb syndrome is one of the cause of blind loop syndrome, and is common postoperative complication. One study has estimated that it occurs in 13% of post pancreatico duodenectomy patients.

Afferent limb syndrome has decreased in incidence after introduction of newer surgical techniques.
