Services

1. Cataract

A cataract is the clouding of the natural lens and is the most common cause of preventable blindness worldwide. The lens acts like the focusing system which focusses light onto the retina . with age when it starts becoming cloudy, it obstructs the passage of light and the quality of vision begins to deteriorate. This affects the quality of day to day activities. Most people develop cataracts in their 50’s, but some may develop it even sooner. Other risk factors that contribute to cataract formation are trauma, infection, inflammation, steroid use, diabetes, previous eye surgery, excessive exposure to sunlight ( UV-B radiation), genetic abnormalities.

2. Lasik

Common reasons why people opt for LASIK are contact lens intolerance, cosmetic purposes, social reasons, lifestyle activities that are limited by the use of glasses or contact lenses such as swimming, sports etc., those aspiring to join the Navy or become Pilots. Patients who wear thick glasses for high refractive errors experience image distortions due to the spectacle. This can be overcome by LASIK.

3. Glaucoma

Glaucoma is a condition where the optic nerve gets gradually and irreversibly damaged due to various reasons. The optic nerve is like an electric cable with over a million wires which is responsible for carrying images from the eye to the brain. In glaucoma, loss of this nerve tissue results in vision loss. Its popularly known as “the silent thief of sight”, because in most cases, it does not manifest with symptoms until the later stages of the disease. Initially, glaucoma affects peripheral or side vision, but it can advance to central vision loss. If left untreated, glaucoma can lead to significant vision loss in both eyes, and may even lead to blindness. It is estimated that half of the people affected by glaucoma may not know they have it. It is the second leading cause of blindness in the world.

4. Retinal Detachment

The retina is the innermost layer of the eye that receives and transmits images that have passed through and been focused by the lens and cornea. The retina, like a film in a camera, is responsible for creating the images that one sees. When the retina detaches, it is lifted or pulled away from its normal position. If not promptly treated, retinal detachment can cause permanent vision loss.

5. Pediatric Ophthalmology

The Paediatric ophthalmology service at Rushabh Eye Hospital & Laser Centre aims to bring a smile on every child’s face. Children have special problems and require special attention to their needs. We have highly qualified Pediatric Ophthalmologists who can manage all kinds of childhood eye diseases including refractive errors, squint, glaucoma, congenital cataract, congenital anomalies, etc.

6. Squint

Squint, also known as strabismus, is a condition in which the two eyes point in different directions. It affects approximately 4 out of every 100 children One eye may turn either in, or out while the other eye aims straight ahead. Due to this condition, both eyes do not always aim simultaneously at the same object. This results in a partial or total loss of stereo vision and binocular depth perception. The eye turns may be visible at all times or may come and go. In some cases, the eye misalignments are not obvious to the untrained observer.
