Laboratory Findings
- The following lab studies are conducted in patients suspected with wilms tumor:
- Complete blood count (CBC)
- Coagulation studies
- Von Willebrand assay
- Done in children with history of hypervascular disease or bleeding.
- Acquired Von Willebrand's disease can be present in patients suffering from wilms tumor.[1]
- This is done as a precaution to risk of bleeding that can occur in case of interventions done for wilms tumor.
- Von Willebrand assay
- Urinalysis
- Liver function test
- Abnormal in case of liver metastasis of wilms tumor.
- Serum creatinine
- Done before and after surgical intervention.
- Serum calcium[2]
- May be elevated in children suffering from rhabdoid tumor of kidney.
- May be elevated in children suffering from congenital mesoblastic nephroma.
- Cytogenetics studies
