History and Symptoms

symptoms of gestational trophoblastic disease

• Vaginal bleeding
• Swelling of the abdomen
• With a hydatidiform mole, the abdomen and uterus may grow at a much faster rate than with a normal pregnancy
• Nausea and vomiting or hyperemesis gravidarum
• Passing of tissue resembling a “bunch of grapes” from the vagina
• Absent fetal movement during pregnancy

Rare signs and symptoms of GTD are:

• headache
• edema of the hands and feet
• overactive thyroid gland (hyperthyroidism) that causes:
• Tachycardia
• warm skin
• sweating
• shaking
• heat intolerance
• abdominal or pelvic pain
• vaginal discharge
• fever

Late signs and symptoms

• Hemoptysis
• dry cough
• chest pain
• trouble breathing
• headache
• dizziness
• jaundice
• paralysis
• seizure
• dysarthria and dysphasia
• vision problems
• lump in the vagina
