Overview

Hepatocellular adenoma may be classified according to the rate of occurence into four subtypes: Inflammatory hepatocellular adenoma, HNF1-alpha mutated hepatocellular adenoma, Beta-catenin mutated hepatocellular adenoma and unclassified hepatocellular adenoma.[1]

Classification

Hepatocellular adenoma may be classified into four subtypes based on the rate of occurence.[1] The table below lists subtypes of hepatocellular adenoma:

Subtype Description
Inflammatory hepatocellular adenoma
  • Most common
  • Highest rate of bleeding
HNF1-alpha mutated hepatocellular adenoma
  • Second most common
Beta-catenin mutated hepatocellular adenoma
  • Least common
  • Associated with:
  • Men on anabolic steroids
  • Glycogen storage disease
  • Familial adenomatous polyposis
Unclassified hepatocellular adenoma
