Overview
Abdominal ultrasound scan may be helpful in the diagnosis of pseudomyxoma peritonei. Finding on ultrasound of patients with pseudomyxoma peritonei are hyper or/and hypoechogenic peritoneal masses or plaques in thickened areas.
Ultrasound
On abdominal ultrasound, pseudomyxoma peritonei is characterized by:[1][2]
- Echogenic peritoneal masses
- Loculated ascites evidence
- Displacement of the small bowel loops
- Scalloping of the liver or spleen margins
