Under a magnification of 12036X, this 2004 scanning electron microscopic (SEM) image reveals some of the ultrastructural morphology exhibited by a number of Gram-negative, Helicobacter bilis, also known as Flexispira rappini bacteria. First described as Flexispira rappini, this bacterium was subsequently determined to be closely related to Helicobacter spp. The nameF. rappini is considered a provisional name, as it was never formally proposed, or accepted. See PHIL 5701, 5709, 5710, 5711, 5714, and 5717, in which you’ll see more clearly, the spiral, periplasmic fibers that wrapped these spindle-shaped bacteria, as well as their bipolar tufts of sheathed flagella.
