Xipamide is a diuretic. It is typically used to lower blood pressure by means of drawing sodium and potassium from the blood. This causes water to be drawn from the blood into the kidneys where it is excreted in urine. This has the overall affect of decreasing the volume of fluid circulating through the blood vessels thereby decreasing blood pressure. [1]
