CT

A CT of the chest is the best imaging study for assessing mediastinal masses. The CT would show a lobulated mass with irregular borders, heterogeneous attenuation and mediastinal fat invasion. Pleural and pericardic effusion might also be seen in a CT. In contrast with a thymoma, a thymic carcinoma would be bigger.
