The term rupture describes various sorts of breaking in a number of fields.

  • Rupture (engineering), a failure mode
  • Steam rupture, a rupture in a nuclear power plant (such as pressurized water reactors and boiling water reactors) when the temperature of the nuclear reactor reaches a certain level too quickly
  • Rupture of membranes, a term used during pregnancy of the reproductive female to describe a rupture of membranes
  • A premature rupture of membranes (PROM), a rupture that occurs prior to labour in childbirth
