Overview
X-rays of psittacosis patients show lobar consolidation, patchy infiltrates, a diffuse whiteout of lung field, or pleural effusions.
Chest X Ray
- On chest X-ray, lobar changes such as lobar consolidation may be seen in about 80% of the patients diagnosed with psittacosis.
- Infiltrates may also be seen. These changes are observed more frequently in the lower lobes of the lungs.[1]
- Approximately one-quarter of patients have multilobar changes, and slightly fewer have a normal chest radiograph.[2]
- Pleural effusions are rare but can occur.
- Migratory infiltrates have also been described.[3]
