Overview
Ultrasound may be helpful in the diagnosis of hiatus hernia. Findings on an ultrasound suggestive of hiatus hernia include intra-abdominal esophagus measurement, gastroesophageal junction location, bowel diameter and gastroesophageal angle.
Ultrasound
- Ultrasound may be helpful in the diagnosis of hiatus hernia. Findings on an ultrasound suggestive of hiatus hernia include:[1]
- Location of gastroesophageal junction .
- Bowel diameter measured at the diaphragmatic hiatus.
In children
- Sliding hiatal hernia in infants and young children shows the following signs.[2]
- Measurement of Intra-abdominal esophagus which is less than 2 cm in diameter.
- Sigh of a beak at the gastroesophageal junction.
