Overview
Effective measures for the primary prevention of hepatoblastoma include use of abdominal ultrasound in patients with Beckwith-Wiedemann syndrome or isolated hemihyperplasia.[1]
Hepatoblastoma primary prevention
- To detect abdominal malignancies at an early stage, all children with Beckwith-Wiedemann syndrome or isolated hemihyperplasia are screened regularly for multiple tumor types including hepatoblastoma by abdominal ultrasound.[1]
- Screening using alpha-fetoprotein levels has also helped in the early detection of hepatoblastoma in these children.[1]
