Classification

Based on etiology, American diabetic association has classified type 1 DM into:

• Immune-mediated
• Idiopathic

Based on the clinical presentation, Type 1 DM can be classified into:

• Classic new onset diabetic mellitus
• Diabetic ketoacidosis
