There is no single diagnostic study of choice for the diagnosis of chondroma, but chondroma can be diagnosed based on x-ray, MRI, CT scan, bone scan and biopsy.[1][2][3]

Study of choice

  • There is no single diagnostic study of choice for the diagnosis of chondroma, but chondroma can be diagnosed based on x-ray, MRI, CT scan, bone scan and biopsy.
Diagnostic results

The following result of biopsy is confirmatory of chondroma:

  • Hyaline cartilage with sparse chondrocytes
  • No nuclear atypia or mitotic figures.
Sequence of Diagnostic Studies
  • The various investigations for chondroma must be performed in the following order:
    • X-ray
    • CT scan
    • MRI
    • Bone scan
    • Biopsy

Diagnostic Criteria

  • There are no established criteria for the diagnosis of chondroma.
