Overview

Medical Therapy

Conservative management of Boerhaave syndrome consists of:[1][2]

  • Intravenous fluids should be instituted.
  • Antibiotics: Imipenem/cilastatin
  • Nasogastric suction
  • Keep the patient NPO.
  • Adequate drainage with tube thoracostomy or formal thoracotomy.
