Overview

There is no pathognomonic finding on biopsy, although the majority of studies indicate that fibrosis is frequently present.

Histologic Differences Between Isolated Noncompaction Cardiomyopathy and that Associated with Congenital Heart Disease

Among patients with isolated noncompaction, the deep intertrabecular recesses communicate with only the left ventricular cavity. In contrast, among patients with noncompaction associated with other congenital heart diseases, the deep intertrabecular recesses communicate with both the left ventricular cavity and the coronary circulation[1].
