Overview
- Lymphangitis is an ancient disease. The exact origins of the disease are not clearly known. Specific historical perspective for individual infections are discussed in detail separately.
Historical Perspective
- Lymphangitis carcinomatosa was first described by pathologist Gabriel Andral in 1829 in a patient with uterine cancer[1]
- In 1897,J. Maitland, British surgeon, performed removal of adult filariæ in cases of lymphangitis[2]
- In 1912,McDonagh JE, described a case study of Syphilitic Elephantiasis of the Scrotum involving lymphangitis[3]
In 1923,Sequeira JH, described a case study of Tuberculous lymphangitis of skin[4]
